POLYNAS High-Bandwidth Wireless Network Buoy

Combining the sensor and telemetry modules with an inexpensive floating housing yields wireless sensor system nodes capable of being scaled into networks. The low-cost buoy allows us to offer to customers large distributed sensor arrays.

The Polynas high-bandwidth wireless network bouy becomes an inexpensive but robust support and communications structure for floating distributed sensor networks. The Polynas is the vehicle Voda uses to deploy its Manta underwater ion-trap mass spectrometer in open-water environments, as well as its Moray mini-CTD and Trident wireless IP camera system. Powered by your choice of rechargeable battery stacks, solar panels*, wind turbines or underwater turbines*, the Polynas can cost-effectively extend broad, multinode sensor arrays into emerging ecosystem observatories. With a wifi communications range in miles, not meters, the Polynas is the practical solution for high-density sensor deployments with extended bandwidth requirements. Real-time reconfiguration of sensor-sampling rates, variable transmission schedules, and data logging provide robust and efficient power management and allow greater flexibility for managing and servicing the units.

Software:
Voda's Remote Data Collection software enables customized data retrieval. Set initial collection times to maximize battery life, modify values mid-deployment to view more frequent results or change to continuous collection. A lower-cost solution involves simple text based communication and terminal emulation programs like HyperTerminal for manual data retrieval.
