Scenarios

The most obvious use of Voda's sensors and networks is to study and monitor a water body, but there are many ways to do that and many other ways to use these products. Voda's sensors are adaptable to many situations and we have more devices on our bench that we're perfecting, so if you have a task, we'll find a way to meet your needs. Here are some of possibilities, based on customers and queries we've gotten:

Energy Exploration and Processing
An offshore oil rig is in the midst of an aquatic environment, so any oil that escapes would have a direct effect on animals and habitat. Companies do all they can to prevent this and to avoid losing product, but a robust monitoring system could add security and comfort those who live on the adjacent shore. Voda's Manta underwater ion-trap mass spectrometer can provide lab-quality analysis and wireless real-time reporting to assure everyone that the petroleum products stay where they should. Likewise, for productivity, compliance or community relations, a Voda sensor network can check every step in an industrial process to make sure no inputs or outputs are wasted or that nothing harmful escapes.

Security
Voda's sensors and networks are small, agile and quick to deploy, so setting up a system of cameras or other sensors takes a matter of a few hours. For a special event or circumstance, such a network can be in place reporting to an administrator before most networks are even configured. But Voda's products and services are robust enough to last as long as you like, so if circumstances requiring security become permanent, you can leave your fast Voda network in place as an ongoing protection, with no need to upgrade or redeploy. Short-term or long, the sensors you choose could do everything from detect mines to sniff out biological or chemical weapons to provide video or acoustic tracking, above or below the water. Or in most outdoor environments..

Compliance monitoring
If you're running an agricultural enterprise, building a shopping center or dredging a shipping channel, regulations will require you don't disturb the surrounding environment. A Voda sensor network can ensure that, in real time, you know exactly what is downstream of your activity and alert you when your work affects it so you can correct quickly. The network can also be restructured or redeployed as phases of activity progress so you will always know exactly what you need to.

Water and Wastewater
Municipal or private, water supply and wastewater management are regulated and require careful understanding of inputs and outputs. If a reservoir, river or well becomes contaminated -- either by nature, accident or foul play -- you need to know immediately so you can adjust your process or even close off the source before endangering your customers. Likewise, wastewater outflows can fluctuate significantly depending on what comes into the process, but what leaves the end of the pipe still has to meet the rules. And, as those rules change, perhaps with new environmental or medical understanding (such as evidence of pharamaceutical residue in wastewater or water supplies), operators need good, quick information to adapt. Voda's in situ networks not only find even traces of whatever you need to track but can be manipulated for new sensing, all from the convenience of your desk.

Education and Entertainment
The information age has created an appetite among the public to know things they never before knew they could know. And they want the information instantly. Be it monitoring red tide before a trip to the beach, teaching children about the workings of the environment, or sharing wildlife video with prospective tourists, Voda's sensor networks can be configured to provide consumer-level information and images at the moment a customer or taxpayer should think of them. Indeed, a monitoring network that serves a public health or safety purpose can simultaneously be a vehicle for outreach, information and entertainment, leveraging the already modest cost of installing Voda sensors.
